Dr Brian Loon is the Principal Veterinary Surgeon at Amber Vet, Singapore, with over 18 years of experience in small animal medicine. His clinical focus is on veterinary dentistry, diagnostic ultrasonography, acupuncture and minimally invasive (keyhole) surgery, where he provides advanced, precise, and compassionate care for pets.

Advanced Training & Experience

Dr Brian has extensive experience in veterinary dentistry, ranging from routine dental cleaning to advanced oral surgery and restorative work.

He has trained with specialist veterinary dentists in periodontology, dental radiology, endodontics (root canal therapy), orthodontics, prosthodontics and maxillofacial surgery, across institutions in Australia, the USA, and Europe. He is currently enrolled in the Certificate of Advanced Studies in Veterinary Medicine (Dentistry) programme by the European School of Advanced Veterinary Studies (ESAVS).

Since 2008, Dr Brian has performed a wide range of dental procedures and since 2018, has focused on advanced dentistry to provide pets with safe, effective, and minimally painful care.

Procedures include:

  • Comprehensive oral health assessments
  • Dental radiography
  • Scaling and polishing
  • Tooth extraction
  • Periodontal surgery to rescue teeth with periodontal disease
  • Root canal therapy, vital pulp therapy
  • Teeth alignment
  • Dental crowns and restorations

Dr Brian trained under professors from Colorado State University and has been performing laparoscopic and endoscopic surgeries since 2014.

These keyhole procedures offer smaller incisions, faster recovery, and reduced post-operative discomfort, ensuring a gentler surgical experience for pets.

Procedures include:

  • Laparoscopic spays (for female dogs)
  • Undescended testicle removal
  • Biopsies of the liver, kidneys, lymph nodes, pancreas, and gastrointestinal tract
  • Bladder stone removal
  • Removal of simple gastrointestinal foreign objects

With advanced training under international experts from the USA and Germany, Dr Brian has over 15 years of experience in diagnostic ultrasound.

This allows for accurate, non-invasive assessment of the liver, kidneys, bladder, spleen, gastrointestinal tract and heart, supporting early diagnosis and effective treatment planning.

Dr Brian holds a Certificate in Veterinary Acupuncture from the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society (IVAS), completing a year-long intensive training in Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM) and acupuncture.

He has been incorporating acupuncture in his practice since 2014 to provide pets with complementary care for pain management, mobility support, and overall wellbeing.

Teaching, Leadership & Outreach

Beyond clinical practice, Dr Brian plays an active role in veterinary education and skill development in the region.

  • Instructor for endoscopy and minimally invasive surgery courses (in collaboration with Colorado State University professors)
  • Lead anaesthetist for Lap Spay for a Cause workshops in Bali, Indonesia
  • Instructor for Lap Spay for a Cause workshop in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
  • Course lecturer for veterinary anaesthesia and ultrasonography workshops in the Philippines
  • Former adjunct lecturer at Temasek Polytechnic for the Specialist Diploma in Veterinary Wellness Care

He is passionate about sharing knowledge with both fellow veterinarians and pet owners, empowering better care and stronger bonds between pets and their families.

Awards & Recognition

Dr Loon was the 2025 Bright Mind Practice Game Changer Award winner, presented at the Singapore Vet Show 2025.
